New Exhibit: Mill Workers
September 5th 2010 - December 31 2010
The museum will feature an exhibit of photographs shot by Michael Anthony in and
around the Allied Textile Printers Mill in the Great Falls Historic District of Paterson,
New Jersey. The exhibit presents more than fifty images of mill workers, textile mill
buildings and the surrounding neighborhood. The exhibit will be on view from
September 5th through December 31, 2010 A reception will be held with the artist on Sunday, September 26 at 2 PM. Refreshments will be served.

These images capture the final days of an industry that once employed tens of
thousands of workers in the Paterson area. "They provide a unique glimpse of a
bygone era and, we are excited to present the exhibit," said Museum Director,
Dr. Angelica Santomauro.

The photographer and owner of Circle M Studios, Michael Anthiny said, "My
years at Allied were special and afforded me the opportunity to capture a place
and people that are now gone." Mr. Anthony worked at Allied from 1972 to 1976.
The mill closed in 1983 and the buildings were subsequently destroyed by several
fires. It is now a brown field site which the City of Paterson of the State of New
Jersey are seeking to rehabilitate. Several of Mr. Anthony's photographs were also
included in a 2010 New Jersey State Historical Preservation Office report produced
for this purpose.

The four month exhibit will feature the photographs and recollections of the time
Mr. Anthony worked at the mill. Mr. Anthony later went on to found a children's
book publishing company as well as Circle M Studios, a visual arts firm that offers
his photography.

The project is funded, in part, by the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council
at Passaic Community College, through a grant from the New Jersey State Council
of the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endownment for
the Arts.
